The Southeastern Shrew is a small, long-nosed shrew restricted to moist lowland and upland forests of the southeastern United States. It is closely associated with moist microhabitats—stream banks, sphagnum bogs, and floodplain forests—even in otherwise dry areas. This shrew is rarely captured in pitfall traps and is among the least-studied shrews in eastern North America.
