Illustration of Solomon's Plume (Maianthemum racemosum)

Solomon's Plume, often called false Solomon's seal, produces its creamy white flowers at the end of arching stems rather than beneath them like true Solomon's seal. By late summer the flower cluster is replaced by a bunch of red speckled berries. It is a common companion plant of rich eastern forests, where hermit thrushes and other birds consume the berries.
