Black Willow is the largest native willow in North America, reaching 60 feet on stream banks and floodplains throughout the eastern and central United States. It stabilizes eroding streambanks and provides important habitat for many species. The bark contains salicin, an aspirin precursor used medicinally for centuries. Beavers prefer black willow over most other species.
