The Common Grackle is a large, iridescent blackbird with a long, keel-shaped tail and piercing yellow eye. It is a bold, opportunistic feeder known to wade into shallow water for small fish and to steal food from other birds. Large winter roosts, sometimes numbering millions of birds, are considered agricultural pests but represent one of the most spectacular wildlife spectacles in eastern North America.
