Illustration of Shinleaf (Pyrola elliptica)

Shinleaf is a native evergreen wildflower of cool, moist forests across northern North America, producing a basal rosette of shiny, oval leaves and a leafless stalk with nodding white flowers in June and July. Like other pyrolas, it depends on mycorrhizal fungi for nutrition. Small native bees and bumblebees visit the flowers.
