The Large Hispid Pocket Gopher is a giant pocket gopher of the lowland tropics in Mexico and Central America, one of the largest pocket gopher species in the world, reaching 500 grams. It inhabits the deep, moist soils of banana plantations and tropical river floodplains. Its large body size may reflect adaptation to the nutritious underground roots available in tropical forests.
