Safety note: May carry rabies — do not approach or handle.

The California Myotis is a small, pale bat that emerges very early in the evening, often before complete darkness, making it easier to observe than many bat species. It is common in arid and semi-arid habitats of the western United States, roosting in rock crevices, behind loose bark, and in buildings. Its small size and slow, erratic flight help it maneuver in confined spaces.

Habitat
Desert scrub, chaparral, oak woodlands, and rocky canyons
