The Brown-crested Flycatcher is the largest Myiarchus flycatcher in the US, a cavity nester of Sonoran Desert woodlands where it uses abandoned woodpecker holes in saguaro cactus. It is often found in the same desert riparian areas as the smaller Ash-throated Flycatcher, from which it is best distinguished by its louder, more emphatic call and larger bill.
