The Red Satyr is a distinctive small satyr butterfly of the Southwest with warm reddish-orange wings bearing two large eyespots on the upper forewing and below. It is the western counterpart of the Little Wood Satyr and inhabits grasslands and open woodlands. It has a characteristic skipping flight low over grass and is difficult to follow once it disappears into vegetation.

Rocky grasslands, dry woodlands, and brushy areas of the Southwest
Diet
Larvae: grasses. Adults: rotting fruit and tree sap
