The Alaska Marmot is a poorly known species restricted to the Brooks Range of northern Alaska, one of the most remote and least-surveyed mountain ranges in North America. It may be the most cold-adapted of all North American marmots given its Arctic location and high-elevation talus habitat. Its ecology and behavior have received little study compared to more accessible marmot species.
