The Silver-spotted Skipper is one of the most recognizable and widespread skippers in North America, identified by the large, irregular silver patch on the underside of its hindwing. Adults are fast, darting fliers and are aggressive in defending nectar sources from other insects. The caterpillar lives in a folded-leaf shelter and has an orange-red head.

Open woodlands, gardens, roadsides, and forest edges
Diet
Larvae: black locust and other legumes. Adults: nectar from purple flowers
