Pink Lady's Slipper is one of the most spectacular orchids of North American forests, producing a single large, inflated pink pouch that deceives native bees into entering for pollination without providing any nectar reward. It grows slowly in acidic, nutrient-poor soils and depends on a specific mycorrhizal fungus to germinate. It takes 10–16 years to produce its first flower from seed.

Habitat
Acidic forest floors in pine and hemlock woods across eastern North America
Diet
Flowers deceive queen bumblebees into pollinating without offering nectar
