The Flat-headed Apple Tree Borer is a stout, dull metallic buprestid whose flat-headed larvae bore extensive galleries beneath the bark of apple trees and many other hardwoods, causing serious damage to orchards and nurseries. Adults bask in full sun on the bark of host trees on warm days. Its complex metallic patterns make it attractive up close despite its pest status.
