Fox Sedge is a common wetland sedge with distinctive dense, clustered flower heads that resemble a fox's tail. Native to eastern and central North America, it forms clumps 1–3 feet tall in moist to wet soils. The plant blooms in late spring, producing greenish-brown inflorescences that mature to brown. It is an excellent stabilizer of wet soils along waterways.

Habitat
Found in wet ditches, marshes, floodplains, and moist meadows.
Diet
Seeds consumed by waterfowl and sparrows; stems provide nesting material for marsh wrens.
