Golden Canna is the only native canna in North America, growing in shallow wetlands and pond margins of the southeastern Coastal Plain from South Carolina to Florida. It produces large, showy yellow flowers that are strikingly beautiful and attractive to ruby-throated hummingbirds. Growing 3–5 feet tall, it spreads by rhizomes to form colonies in suitable wet habitats. Golden Canna is the wild parent of many cultivated garden canna hybrids and is an outstanding native water garden plant.

Habitat
Found in shallow ponds, marshes, and wet ditches in the southeastern Coastal Plain.
Diet
Flowers provide nectar for ruby-throated hummingbirds; seeds eaten by waterfowl.
