Lady Fern is one of the most widely distributed ferns in the world, found across most of North America, Europe, and Asia in moist, shaded habitats. Growing 2–4 feet tall in graceful, arching clumps, it is highly variable in form and has given rise to hundreds of cultivated varieties prized in horticulture. The fronds are more finely divided and more delicate in texture than male fern, giving rise to the gender distinction in the common names. Lady Fern is an excellent native garden fern for shaded, moist conditions.

Habitat
Found in moist forests, stream banks, and shaded disturbed areas across most of North America.
Diet
Provides dense ground-level cover for forest floor invertebrates, salamanders, and birds.
