The Long-eared Owl is a medium-sized owl with prominent ear tufts held close together that give it an alert, intense expression. It is a remarkably secretive species that roosts communally in dense thickets and is rarely detected except by persistent searching. It hunts small mammals at night over open fields and meadows by flying low and listening.
