The Nanday Parakeet, or Black-hooded Parakeet, is a bright green South American parakeet with a distinctive jet-black hood and bright red thigh patches. Escaped cage birds have established feral populations in Florida, southern California, and Texas. Its loud, raucous calls are familiar sounds in Miami and Los Angeles neighborhoods.
