The Eastern Honey Bee is the Asian counterpart to the Western Honey Bee and is occasionally kept in North America but is not established in the wild here. Unlike the Western Honey Bee, Apis cerana evolved alongside Varroa mites and has developed hygienic behaviors to remove infested brood. It is smaller and its colonies are considerably less populous.

Adults: pollen and nectar. Larvae: honey and pollen provisions
