The Black Cutworm Moth is a major crop pest noctuid that migrates northward each spring into agricultural areas. Its caterpillar cuts off seedling corn plants at the soil surface, causing dramatic economic losses. Adults are strong migrants tracked on Doppler radar in some years. The moth's dark, boldly streaked hindwing is diagnostic.
